Owl Just Wing It - A Social Media Television Guide and a Brave New YouTube Channel
The rise of social media has impacted lives on a global scale. Previously in this blog, we have discussed the impact and ease of communication globally. Often, it is used to spread information quickly. However, it is turning into an entertainment platform. Mediums like YouTube are becoming so popular that various vloggers can make a career out of their posts. Their viewers are committed and willing to boost their fame.
Social media is hard to master, and there are many pros and cons. The pros involve a career that you love based on your creativity. Becoming a social media influencer or YouTuber has become the new avenue for being discovered for acting gigs (Wallace, 2019). The main con of social media would be the distractions and lack of face-to-face contact in the everyday. Another difficult aspect would be how much of a job it actually is. If it is not developed properly, it would be very hard to keep your social media presence relevant. One of the newest forms of social media television is on Snapchat. They have recently begun posting a series of shows that can be easily accessed on their app. This is highly attributed to the influence younger generations have on Snapchat (Hutchinson, 2019).
In this Quickfire pitch, I will propose my suggestion for a television show based on Kennesaw State students. Imagine watching one of your classmates on YouTube, promoting your school and it might be your turn next. In my YouTube channel, “Owl Wing It,” we can get a real glimpse into the life of a Kennesaw student. The format would be a mix of comedy and reality. I would want to capture the average day in the life of various Kennesaw State students in a fun and free manner.
In each 20-minute episode, we will interview a student and follow them around the campus launching every Friday. With a YouTube channel as our medium the ease of use and length of videos would ensure maximum viewers. Without having to pay for an account, people are more likely to participate in free activities. Fridays are ideal because it will launch right before the weekend. This provides three, essentially, free days to view. An episode would feature two hosts that introduce our Owl-of-the-Week, interview them, and comment on the things that they are doing. The most important quality for our hosts, is their tv personalities. How well can they capture attention? Are they witty? Personable? Knowledgeable about KSU activities? We are looking for people who embody KSU as the face of our operation. Relatedly, the person we would interview needs to have a personality that also embodies KSU, similar to the hosts, but not enough to be attached. With the weekly rotation of our “lead role,” our viewers must love them, but not so much that they will not continue watching the series without them. I believe that this program will be successful because of the friendly, care-free environment that is KSU. As students, we support one another and enjoy goofing off. I believe that this show would be an out of the box way to do so.
